Neocaridina Shrimp Variety – Neocaridina davidi | Live Freshwater Fish
Natural habitat
Originating from Colombia / South America, the Neocaridina shrimp variety thrives in freshwater environments that mimic lush, plant-filled habitats. In the aquarium, they excel in planted nano tanks or small community setups with dense vegetation and plenty of micro-hiding spots, where they can explore, graze biofilm, and forage on tiny scraps.
Adult size
Compact, dwarf shrimp with a delicate silhouette. Their small stature makes them ideal for nano tanks and tight spaces where larger species simply won’t fit.
Temperament
Peaceful and actively foraging, these shrimp make charming, non-threatening tank inhabitants. They do well with calm, small tank mates and should be kept away from large, aggressive species that may harass them.
Tank size
Best suited for planted nano tanks or small community aquariums. A densely planted setup with micro-hiding spots provides both security and feeding opportunities as they navigate through the plants and driftwood.
Diet
Omnivore by nature; support vibrant color and vitality with a varied diet including algae wafers, biofilm, shrimp pellets, and blanched vegetables. Regular grazing on biofilm helps maintain a lively, natural appearance in the tank.
Compatibility
Ideal for peaceful community tanks and nano setups. Pair with other gentle, small species to create a balanced micro-ecosystem. Avoid large, aggressive tankmates that could stress or harass them.
Care level
Beginner-friendly when you maintain a stable, cycled environment and perform regular water changes. Their resilience shines in steady conditions and consistent water quality.
Note: Some product photos depict full-grown adults; individuals you receive may be juveniles and may not yet match those mature colors or size. As they grow, you’ll notice richer color and more active foraging behavior.
Water parameters
Thrive in a stable, cycled system with gentle filtration; avoid copper-based medications. Maintain consistent water conditions to support color, health, and ongoing activity in the colony.
Breeding notes
Breeding opportunities are enhanced by stable water parameters and abundant vegetation that provide biofilm and protected micro-habitats for fry. If you’re interested in observing natural growth and color development, maintain the same care standards you’d provide for adult shrimp.
Store quarantine statement
Quarantine notice: All shrimp are quarantined and observed for a minimum of 7 days before entering our main system. We still recommend quarantine after purchase. Our quarantine process minimizes disease risk, helping you add a healthier, more reliable addition to your nano or community tank.
