• Natural habitat: Native to Colombia/South America; in the wild, it prefers freshwater systems with ample cover and structure (plants or rock formations) that provide shelter and territory boundaries.
• Temperament: Confident, curious, and active. This cichlid enjoys exploring shelters, observing tankmates, and patrolling its territory with a lively presence.
• Tank size: Best housed in a spacious, well-structured aquarium with plenty of hiding spots. A thoughtfully arranged habitat—well-planted or rock-stacked—helps showcase its personality while reducing stress in other tank residents.
• Compatibility: Compatible with well-spaced, non-aggressive tank mates when the tank is appropriately sized. Pairing with peaceful, mid-water or bottom-dwelling species in a larger, well-decorated setup supports harmonious community dynamics.
