Natural habitat

Spotted Raphaels (Agamyxis pectinifrons) originate from Colombia in South America and thrive in freshwater environments. In the aquarium, they adopt a distinctive bottom-dwelling lifestyle, foraging along the substrate and adding subtle, ground-level activity to your display. They perform best in established tanks with stable water conditions and plenty of hiding spots to mirror their natural behavior and reduce stress for other inhabitants.

Appearance

The Spotted Raphaels show a distinct spotted pattern on a dark body, which creates visual intrigue as they patrol the tank floor. Important note: some pictures in listings depict full-grown adults, but juveniles may not yet display the mature coloration or size. This is normal as individuals develop.

Care and tank setup

Because these fish are bottom-dwellers, provide a suitable substrate and ample hiding places such as driftwood, rocks, and plant cover. They appreciate a calm, well-established community tank with stable water parameters and gentle lighting that encourages natural foraging behavior without stressing tank mates.

Quarantine advantage

Store quarantine statement: All fish are quarantined and observed for a minimum of 7 days before entering our main system. This practice helps ensure healthier specimens for your aquarium. We still recommend quarantine after purchase to maximize the health and safety of your new livestock and your existing tank inhabitants.
